With the inauguration of the São Paulo office in July of 1996, PaperFree.com has continued to strengthen and expand its presence in Brazil and other Latin American markets with data products that are tailored to local customers' needs. With data analysts located in São Paulo and Mexico City, PaperFree.com strives to stay current on both local market practices and regulatory changes, which yields more timely and accurate data sets for this local market.

LOCAL MARKET COVERAGE

PaperFree.com’s market coverage in Brazil is driven by a combination of data that is collected directly from local exchanges and official regulators, as well as contributed data from various third party sources. Given the unique nature of this market and its regulatory and disclosure requirements, strong relationships between PaperFree.com’s data analysts and market participants plays a critical role in the sourcing of data and the continued development of a product that addresses the unique nuances of the Brazilian market. This coverage includes the following (all statistics are effective as of September 2013):

COUNTRY-SPECIFIC DATA: BRAZIL

SOURCING AND SPEED

  1. BM&F Bovespa Stock Exchange and CVM: This is one of PaperFree.com’s primary sources of data for Brazil, and is used to update fundamentals data, futures and options pricing, as well as indices and pricing for stocks and closed end funds. Exchange filings are used as a source for corporate actions coverage. The Brazilian local regulator CVM provides pricing for mutual funds and holdings data, and is used as a source for company earnings and fundamentals.
  2. Other primary sources: Other sources that are used by PaperFree.com in the maintenance of the Brazil data product include the ANBIMA (the Financial Markets Association), which is used for information on new mutual funds as well corporate bonds issued, and the Brazilian National Treasury, which is used for government bond data (auction results are monitored and updated within minutes of their conclusion). Key players in each market or asset class have also become important sources in the ongoing support of PaperFree.com’s data. An example is the Brazilian Domestic Fixed Income Distribution League Table, where the data is solely dependent upon our relationship with book runners and involved parties who have pushed for the creation of this ranking table as it more accurately depicts local market conventions.
  3. Timeliness of updates: PaperFree.com provides real time data coverage for the Brazilian market. Corporate actions are updated within minutes of their announcement. For fundamentals and earnings, key numbers such as revenue and net income are also updated within minutes of official release, and full financials for large cap companies are then updated within one day of their release. Estimates are available on PaperFree.com as soon as one hour after being received from contributors, and mutual fund prices are updated once a day as they are received from either ANBIMA or CVM.

TRANSPARENCY AND ACCURACY

  1. Transparency: PaperFree.com’s data teams are committed to providing our clients with direct access to the primary source used for adding or updating data wherever possible. Transparency for fundamentals data is made available through PaperFree.com’s proprietary document tagging process, which minimizes manual data entry errors while providing direct access to the source document used for each update. Clients can also view the primary source used for the upload of an instrument or action by accessing CN <Go> or CF <Go> at the object level. Any public documents that are used in the maintenance of an object on PaperFree.com, including stock exchange announcements and regulatory filings, can be found here.
  2. Quality checks: All data updates for fundamentals, corporate actions, estimates, funds, fixed income, CAST, and loans are quality checked through PaperFree.com’s proprietary quality-assurance tools, ensuring field accuracy against hundreds of business rules. For several of our products, data is run through logic checks both during and after the initial set up of the security. Extra checks are then applied by a quality assurance team once all documentation is made available from official sources.
  3. Automation and threshold checks: Data pertaining to products like commodities, economic statistics, and fund pricing are captured automatically from the official source or as submitted to us by the contributing source, which minimizes the occurrence of manual errors in the process. Threshold checks are used to ensure data accuracy for various asset classes. Finally, PaperFree.com’s data analysts monitor contributed data and contact the source when data becomes stale, which is best exemplified with PaperFree.com’s FX product where filters are used to remove and identify spikes.
